The GAP

APPRENTICESHIP

The GAP 1 apprenticeship is a strategic partnership which prepares young men and women for cross-cultural ministry through a training program which is based on local church, church planting and missions principles. It is an apprenticeship program - combining the formal training found in a Bible school with the practical ministry experiences of an internship. Students experience a combination of academic and practical field training on a daily basis.

The GAP 1 is held on our campuses in northeastern Brazil and in Rio de Janeiro. Students are divided into teams to complete weekly ministry projects that actually build toward planting a new church as the semester progresses. Everyday students can apply in the field what they have learned in the classroom!

The GAP is truly a unique inter-cultural training experience because American students learn and work side-by-side with Brazilian students whom are going through the program at the same time. Our team has written and developed all of the training materials in both English and Portuguese. Our instructors include seasoned American missionaries as well as national pastors and leaders. Students see, learn and model local church ministry within the missions and church planting context.

Students also work with our sister organization Light to the Nations, which has assisted with the planting of over 450 churches since 2001. We are currently focusing on planting churches in the 153 cities of Project 153 that all have at least 10,000 inhabitants with a maximum Christian population of 3%. Check out the Project 153 video here.
